The PortaBilling administrator defines multiple subscription packages for IPTV services (just like for any other service, such as internet telephony, messaging, or data transfer). These are mapped into channel bundles in an IPTV delivery platform. When a new or existing customer signs up for the IPTV service using PortaBilling's online self care pages (this of course can be done by administrator as well), the available channel information (based on the assigned subscriptions) is provisioned into the IPTV delivery platform via an extensible XML API. Also, if a customer's product configuration changes, or a customer is blocked (e.g. due to non-payment), PortaBilling transfers this information to the IPTV delivery platform.

Pay-per-View

In case of pay-per-view service, the IPTV delivery platform offers a framework for adapters that communicate with PortaBilling. So when a customer requests a pay-per-view content, PortaBilling validates in real time whether this client has enough funds available, and the pay-per-view charge is debited from the client's account immediately after the purchase confirmation.

As a result, both subscription-based and pay-per-view IPTV services are fully managed via the PortaBilling web interface. Also, PortaBilling adds all applicable charges to the customer's invoice, along with any other charges (periodic and event-based) for services such as internet access, voice calls, and so on.
