Triple Play Services: IPTV, Video on Demand, and Pay-Per-View For telecommunication service providers, triple play is not just a buzzword - rather, it is the only way to stay competitive and retain their customer base. PortaSwitch can enable VoIP service providers and ISPs to add IPTV, video on demand, and pay-per-view offerings to their service portfolio and expand the growth of their business. Being an integral part of PortaSwitch, PortaBilling is a service provisioning and management environment built into converged real-time billing system. Service providers use PortaBilling for rating and invoicing of any type of services (including IPTV, voice telephony, and Internet access) with centralized funds management and consolidated bills.
IPTV services delivery products offered by companies like Espial (formerly Kasenna) usually include a content delivery platform, a services framework, application servers, and client portals.
Together they enable acquisition, storage, distribution, caching and delivery of IPTV content to a variety of devices; the management of content workflow; rights management and royalty reporting to rights owners; and the delivery of IPTV content to various applications (such as set-top boxes). PortaOne partners with IPTV solution companies that offer service and content delivery products enabling a full range of interactive IPTV offerings. The PortaBilling administrator defines multiple subscription packages for IPTV services (just like for any other service, such as internet telephony, messaging, or data transfer). These are mapped into channel bundles in an IPTV delivery platform. PortaBilling allows service providers to do better marketing, work with multiple customer groups, and enjoy greater flexibility in terms of pricing the service. IPTV SubscriptionWhen a new or existing customer signs up for the IPTV service using PortaBilling's online self care pages (this of course can be done by administrator as well), the available channel information (based on the assigned subscriptions) is provisioned into the IPTV delivery platform via an extensible XML API. Also, if a customer's product configuration changes, or a customer is blocked (e.g. due to non-payment), PortaBilling transfers this information to the IPTV delivery platform.
Pay-per-ViewIn case of pay-per-view service, the IPTV delivery platform offers a framework for adapters that communicate with PortaBilling. So when a customer requests a pay-per-view content, PortaBilling validates in real time whether this client has enough funds available, and the pay-per-view charge is debited from the client's account immediately after the purchase confirmation.
Managing Triple Play Services with PortaBillingAs a result, both subscription-based and pay-per-view IPTV services are fully managed via the PortaBilling web interface. Also, PortaBilling adds all applicable charges to the customer's invoice, along with any other charges (periodic and event-based) for services such as internet access, voice calls, and so on. This enhances the customer’s experience, improves accounts receivable tracking, simplifies maintenance, and reduces operating costs. The combination of the third parties' IPTV service delivery platforms and PortaBilling creates a world-class video ingest, storage, distribution and delivery platform with a robust, high-quality video functionality. Easy provisioning and full control on the billing side allow you to reduce operating costs and quickly achieve profits from IPTV services. |
